Diplomas are not distributed at commencement.

Beginning approximately 6 weeks after the graduation date, diplomas will be mailed to the permanent address on record in the Office of the University Registrar. Students should verify and update the permanent address in LEO Online or submit a written address change to the Office of the University Registrar using the Address/Name Change Form.

What information is on the diploma?

  • The diploma displays only the degree awarded.
  • The student's major/minor are listed on the transcript but are not printed on the diploma.

Replacement or Duplicate Diploma

Replacement and additional diplomas can be ordered through our vendor, . The size is 11"x14" and will bear the signature of the current rector and president. Reissued diplomas start at a cost of $52.85. Additional fees are charged for notarized or expedited diplomas.

A request for change of name on a replacement diploma will only be honored if legal documentation of the name change has been provided. See Name Change Request Information on our website.

Diplomas damaged during mailing may be replaced at no cost. Please tear the diploma in half and send a picture of it to graduation@odu.edu.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of specially ordered diplomas.

Final Transcripts and Verification of Degree

Final transcripts are not automatically provided to graduates, but must be requested in writing. Transcript forms have a service box to indicate special deadlines, or hold for degree posting. See Transcripts.

Students who require proof of graduation for an employer, graduate school, certification board or other third party should email graduation@odu.edu. Transcripts and verifications will not be released until all holds, debts, or obligations to the University have been satisfied.
