On October 6, 2017, Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott, assistant professor and school counseling coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Human Services in the Darden College of Education, received the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES) Outstanding Pre-Tenure Counselor Educator Award. The award was presented to Goodman-Scott at the SACES Business Meeting awards ceremony held during the 2017 national ACES Annual Conference in Chicago, IL. She was among one of five in the nation to receive this prestigious award which recognizes individual faculty members displaying exceptional progress in the early stages of their academic career in regards to their research, teaching, and service/leadership.

Goodman-Scott joined the Darden College of Education in January 2014, and has published, presented, and written grants in the areas of school counselors' role in positive behavioral interventions and support; school counselor preparation trends; and counseling youth with disabilities while also teaching graduate-level counseling courses. She received the 香港六合彩资料 Shining Star Teaching Award in spring 2015, fall 2015, and spring 2016 recognizing her dedication, hard work, and attention to her students. Her leadership and service roles have included board memberships for The Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling (ACAC) and The International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors (IAAOC) and the Virginia School Counselor Association.

With the support of dean Jane S. Bray, Goodman-Scott was nominated for the award by Dr. Danica G Hays, professor and executive associate dean, UNLV, and Dr. Tim Grothaus, associate professor and chair of the Darden College of Education Department of Counseling and Human Services. According to Grothaus, "Dr. Goodman-Scott consistently demonstrates outstanding achievement in academic domains through remarkable effectiveness, dedication and integrity. We couldn't be more proud of her for receiving this award and representing the entire Department of Counseling and Human Services here at the Darden College of Education.
