Transportation Guidelines

If you experience temporary or permanent mobility impairments, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ has options to support you. Ìýâ–º

  • Students who experience permanent or temporary mobility impairments should contact the Office of Educational Accessibility to determine accommodations that may be available to support their physical access to campus and classes.
  • Students must provide documentation of a mobility impairment from a qualified examiner, such as a medical doctor or emergency room personnel. For temporary mobility impairments of a lower limb, the documentation needs to specifically state that the student is non-weight bearing and how long mobility assistance is required.

Accessible Parking

Designated on-campus accessible parking spaces are available to students with permanent or temporary mobility impairments who have both a valid Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ parking permit and a state-issued accessible parking placard.

Students with temporary mobility impairments who do not have current Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ parking permits or state-issued accessible parking placards can receive these through the Transportation and Parking Services office located at 100 Parking Garage A, 4310 Elkhorn Ave, Norfolk, VA 23529. Temporary Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ parking permits can be issued at a monthly rate and a temporary accessible pass can be issued with documentation from a doctor explaining the mobility impairment.

For more information about parking with a disability, please refer to the Parking with a Disability page.

Accessible shuttle services are provided around the perimeter of campus and all the residence halls via the Monarch Loop. The accessible shuttle services are available between the hours of 7:30 AM and 12:30 AM Monday through Friday and between the hours of 9:30 AM and 12:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday during the fall and spring semesters.

Information about the shuttle services is available on the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ Transportation and Parking website and on the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏMobile app.

Curb-to-Curb Transportation

Transportation and Parking Services operates a van service (curb-to-curb only) for students with permanent mobility impairments who cannot be accommodated with the existing Monarch Loop shuttle services.

To receive this accommodation, students must provide documentation of the mobility impairment from a qualified examiner through our secure Registration for Services portal. For temporary mobility impairments, the documentation needs to specifically state that the student is non-weight bearing and how long mobility assistance is required. Students must also provide a copy of their schedule of classes to the Office of Educational Accessibility so that a personalized fixed schedule of transportation can be developed.
