  • MADD Eat, Drink, and Be Driven Evaluation Survey, with Principal Investigator Bryan Porter
    Survey to gather data on the effectiveness of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)-VA 2021 Eat, Drink and Be Driven PSA(s) which aired on radio, television, and/or Facebook. The web-based survey gathered data on the impact of the campaign on drivers in general and as well as the potential influence on impaired drivers to make better decisions. The survey measured attitudes, self-reported driving behaviors, perceptions, and PSA awareness.
  • An Examination of Isolation and Risk of Alzheimer's Caregivers during COVID-19: Computer Use as a Security Risk or Effective Coping Tool?, with co-PIs Brian Payne and Muge Akpinar-Elci
    Surveys and focus groups to听investigate the experiences of caregivers of those with Alzheimer's and other dementias during the COVID-19 pandemic, assess the type and extent of social isolation and stress experienced by caregivers, explore the use of virtual/computer-based caregiving resources and supports, evaluate the cyber hygiene of caregivers to determine risk for cybercrime, and document instances of cybercrime victimization amongst Alzheimer's caregivers.
  • CIVIIC: Cybercrime in Virginia: Impacts on Industry and Citizens, with Principal Investigator Randy Gainey and co-PIs at Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University
    A statewide cybercrime survey of both citizens and businesses focused on Virginia to enable the delineation of the highest priority threats, identify cybercrime methods used, and provide an assessment of geographic, demographic and industry variation in victimization across the state. The project will provide baseline knowledge and data for future policy, research, and interventions to reduce exposure to cyber victimization in the Commonwealth.

  • Virginia Beach GrowSmart LENA GROW Evaluation, with Principal Investigator Steve Tonelson
    Evaluation of an early childhood literacy program within select childcare centers in Virginia Beach. Teachers will be using the LENA GROW curriculum in their classrooms and be provided with coaches to help them implement the program with their students/children. Interviews, focus groups and surveys will be conducted with early childhood teachers and their coaches.
  • Professional Development and Regional Opportunities Generating Computing Resources and Microcredentials (PROGRAM), with Principal Investigator Melani Loney
    An evaluation of the PROGRAM in partnership with The Center for Educational Practices (TCEP) to assess how the online project planning activities conducted by school division leaders enhance their attitudes, awareness, and understanding of the integration of computer science standards into the core content subjects. Observations and web-based surveys will be used to gather data from school division participants.
  • Spiritual Journeys Project
    Qualitative interviews on behalf of the Center for Mind and Culture (Boston, MA) to explore the concept of individual religious change. Interviews were conducted with those who shift from religious to non-religious, switch between religions, or have multiple religious identities. This study aims to collect in-depth narratives of spiritual journeys and develop a repository of religious journeys. This initial pilot study will help plan for a larger study.
  • SCHEV XL Experiential Learning, with Principal Investigator Brian Payne
    Surveys and focus groups with business, faculty, and students to assess the state of experiential learning (XL) at 香港六合彩资料 and how the university can strategically shape experiential learning opportunities for students. Experiential learning refers to opportunities to learn outside of standard classroom instruction including but not limited to service learning, internships, practicums, student teaching, and clinical placements. Data will inform a strategic plan for experiential learning based on the current state of experiential learning at 香港六合彩资料 and how it might be improved.

  • Opportunities in Manufacturing of Advanced Materials for Second Career Seeking Students, with Principal Investigator Alex Kravchenko
    Evaluation of a program that provides scholarships for two years as a part of institutional support to academically talented second career seeking (SCS) students with demonstrated financial need during their junior and senior years. The program is focused on understanding the factors that affect recruitment, retention, academic success, and degree attainment of SCS students. Resources for SCS students will include financial support, social support from cohorts of SCS students, professional development opportunities and mentorship by industrial partners and faculty in the area of manufacturing of advanced materials. Students completed surveys and participated in focus groups about their experiences in the SCS program.
  • EVMS Car Safety Now
    Telephone and web-based surveys to evaluate the EVMS Car Safety Now program TV and online advertisements about booster seat use for "big kids". The SSRC conducted telephone and web-based surveys of Hampton Roads residents before the ads aired and then again after to learn more about driver's knowledge about booster seat use (pre and post-ad) as well as ad recognition (post-ad).
  • OOI Data Explorer Survey
    A web-based survey to support the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) data dissemination and cyber infrastructure group evaluation of their OOI data delivery systems. The survey assessed the extent to which current data systems meet the needs of the user community including how the data system is used, issues with access, satisfaction with the data, and need for additional support.
  • Williamsburg Live Audience Intercept & Follow-Up Survey
    An in-person intercept and follow-up web survey on behalf of the VA Arts Festival to learn more about concert-goers experiences during their events including where concert-goers live, how much they spend during the event, where they stayed (if out of town), and general demographics. During the two-day concert event in Williamsburg ("Williamsburg Live"), staff from the SSRC were on-site to collect names, telephone numbers and/or emails with adult audience members to conduct a follow-up survey after the event.

  • Improving Rural Broadband: The Impact of Broadband Access and Proposed Investments in 5G Networks in South Dakota, with Principal Investigator Bob McNab
    In partnership with the University of South Dakota and 香港六合彩资料's Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy, The SSRC conducted interviews with and surveyed rural South Dakota residents to learn their perceptions of the coverage, capacity and speed of internet access and the impacts on quality of life. Our research partners also examined the South Dakota economy including general components of population change and the performance of the state economy.

The survey is part of a multi-stage program evaluation to reduce suicide and improve mental health at 香港六合彩资料. The project seeks to enhance mental health service provision, improve campus-wide mental health-related attitudes, and reduce college student stress, suicide risk and substance abuse through a mental health awareness campaign, trainings of key 香港六合彩资料 personnel and students, and the creation of a Campus-Community Suicide Prevention Taskforce.

    Telephone survey of 1,200 Hampton Roads residents regarding their perceptions of and behaviors related to Hurricane Florence as well as perceptions of the regions' response to the storm.

    Mail survey with 5,000 consumers of mental health/substance abuse services as well as providing data management and data analysis services. The purpose of the survey is to gather input from the adults and parents of children who use/have used public services and to gather input that is required for Virginia to maintain its eligibility for funding through the Mental Health Community Services Block Grant to the States.

  • Smart Supervision Program (SSP) Evaluation
    A听multi-year, collaborative effort between the Virginia Office of the Attorney general, the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, Norfolk Department of Human Services, Norfolk Probation and Parole, and the 香港六合彩资料 research team which includes the SSRC and sociology/criminal justice faculty. The SSP is providing re-entry support services to gang-involved/violent offenders while still incarcerated as well as family support services once released to the community in an effort to better reintegrate high-risk offenders back into their families and their communities. The SSRC is working with all stakeholders to collect quarterly data, conduct a process evaluation, and provide recommendations for program improvement. The 香港六合彩资料 research team is using a multi-methods approach to the SSP evaluation to include document review, surveys, focus groups, and interviews to assess the effectiveness of the SSP efforts.
  • Hampton Roads Education, Workforce & Economic Development Alliance (HRCyber) Evaluation - with Principal Investigator, Brian Payne
    Multiple focus groups with employers to determine their views on the gaps in the cybersecurity workforce in terms of knowledge and required skills. The SSRC also conducted web-based surveys with regional employers and educational partners to assess cybersecurity workforce preparation and training needs. The data from both surveys (employers and educational partners) was used to describe the quality of the existing workforce in terms of preparation and readiness, gaps in knowledge and preparation of the workforce, and how well educational programs are meeting the needs of employers.

The goal of the survey is to provide a source of data through which faculty can compile pilot data to develop their research publications and extramural research grant proposals and to continue to develop a dataset of social/economic indicators for use by community organizations.   • Suffolk Hot Spot Policing Evaluation (Suffolk Police Department)
    Telephone surveys of residents in identified "hot spot" areas for crime before and after predictive policing software was implemented. Additional telephone surveys were conducted in year 2 with hot spot residents as well as residents in neighboring non-hot spots for comparison. The SSRC also analyzed crime data over time including crimes knowns to the police and calls for service.
  • Hampton Roads Economic Roadmap Interviews
    The SSRC assisted Larry "Chip" Filer from the Strome College of Business with conducting interviews of 45 Hampton Roads businesses. Business leaders were asked questions about reliance on federal spending in the region, the factors necessary to grow their business in Hampton Roads as well as factors that inhibit growth. The SSRC summarized the interviews and assisted with drafting the final report.
  • Virginia Tiered Systems of Support (VTSS) School Climate Evaluation
    In partnership with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Steve Tonelson from Special Education, the SSRC conducted focus groups with Virginia school division leaders to assess the implementation fidelity, expectations, and challenges of implementing a tiered system of supports to address behavior and academic achievement in public schools. Goals include enhancing the capacity of school divisions to implement and sustain the Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS) component aligned with VTSS academic tiered systems of supports and to assess PBIS/VTSS implementation fidelity and the associated academic, behavioral, and school climate outcome measures.

The mental health court is an alternative docket for offenders who have been identified as mentally ill.     Development of program evaluation and data collection instruments, survey data collection, focus groups, data entry, data analysis, and reporting. Throughout this 18 month evaluation project, a total of ten AccessEU events were evaluated. Events included teacher seminars, speaker series, graduate courses, Model United Nations conference, and a study abroad trip. Data will be used to support future grants for similar European Union focused events. (January 2011- June 2012)

    Telephone survey of victims of crime who applied for victim's compensation in the state of Georgia. Data will be used by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to help improve the application process by assessing gaps in service and identifying barriers to obtaining compensation in order to better provide for the needs of crime victims. Overall project goals include addressing practitioner and practice-level factors influencing the adoption, implementation fidelity, and effectiveness of alcohol screening and brief intervention in dental practice settings.   • Heart Healthy Data Analysis and Evaluation
    Data entry, analysis, and reporting of survey data collected from Portsmouth Public Housing residents from the With Every Heartbeat is Life program. The goal is to increase knowledge of heart disease risk factors and promote health behaviors that prevent and control these heart disease risk factors. A pre-test and post-test survey is administered and collected for each session. A "My Health Habits" survey is also administered before and after completion of the course.     Management, data entry and data tracking responsibilities for mail survey data of Virginia educators (n=3400) and parents (n=185) documenting the current status of services for students with emotional disabilities in Virginia. Data will be used to propose a series of research-based steps to improve outcomes for students with emotional disabilities (ED) in Virginia. Also programmed and managed web-based survey of national experts regarding which initiatives for students with emotional disabilities they are implementing in their state, how widespread the initiative is in their state, and barriers to effective intervention.     Development of a self-administered survey instrument and data entry of survey data for a small group of parenting and pregnant teens. The survey will be used to help a local task force improve the healthy development of babies born to teenage parents in Virginia Beach as part of a Smart Beginnings grant. The task force will use the data collected from the survey to identify gaps in services for pregnant or parenting teens and to improve service delivery in general. (March - June听2010).
